Woke up at about 4:30 AM. This time everything around us seemed calmer. I now appreciated the breeze of fresh air and the simplicity of the place. The sun rose and as each one woke up, smiles were present and seemingly with a looking forward feeling that this time we can go to Calaguas.
Unfortunately, there's this what they call storm aftermath, and so for the same we were not allowed to go to the Island that we all hoped to visit. Thus, we all headed to the activity set for the day - to Bagasbas Beach we go!
Bagasbas Beach in Daet, Camarines Norte is one of the top surfing destinations in the Philippines. It is known for its long and wide stretch of fine, gray and powdery sand with big waves that roll in from the Pacific Ocean which makes it an ideal spot for surfers of any level. It is known to provide barrels, that can be experienced between July to November and sometimes, all the way to January.
We had Lemon Glazed chicken and french toas for breakfast in Bagasbas Surfer's Diner! Well, we're not supposed to be heavy when we surf. So we wore our rash guards ( top) and rented surfing boards and were endorsed to our surfing trainers for briefing and basic lessons.
Honestly, I am not a beach person so surfing has not been in my bucket list, but it's an adventure that is something new to me. I could not let the chance pass by without trying it, and so I did. See the pictures? Well, that pretty much spoke of how I faired with surfing. WIPED OUT! Yes, but I sure had so much fun. The challenge was on how you can balance yourself and withstand the waves. I was able to stand and somehow I felt that I was able to run through the waves, though just for quick moments because for the most part I fell. It was such a thrill to battle with the waves. No matter how powerful they were, No matter how nervous I was, I felt I was still safe. Oh well, really thankful to our trainers. They were so patient and supportive.
I never thought I would have done this kind of thing, and I am really glad I did. I realized that surfing gives you that sense of challenge and gives you this thought that you can do it, that you want to make it. It makes you focus to achieve your goal; and that is to withstand the waves. And in reality, life is like that too. We rise and fall, but what is important is no matter how many times we fall, we should always learn to get up and learn from our mistakes, so the next time we know better. Maybe I will know better the next time I try this activity.
As we ended the tour, everyone seemed to have enjoyed. The surfing experience gave us all a bliss. It made us forget our longing for Calaguas Island. This time, we had more pictures, we shared more stories, we got to exchange names and numbers and bond on our way home. I had fun spending my weekend with new people and with new experiences to widen my horizon. Love it!
And Calaguas, I am sure I'll see you soon!
